Twilight Photography Preparation Checklist for GTA Homes

A twilight session depends on the property being ready before the useful evening light arrives. Use this checklist after deciding that an evening image has a purpose in the listing. Confirm the actual appointment time with the photographer; sunset, orientation and weather change the working window.

Test the lighting in advance

Turn on entrance, exterior, landscape and selected interior lights before the shoot day so faults can be addressed. Check timers and controls, and identify who can operate them. Aim for a believable view of the home rather than lighting every surface indiscriminately.

• Replace failed bulbs where practical.
• Check whether automatic lights can remain on for the planned capture.
• Have access to relevant controls without sharing codes publicly.
• Tell the photographer about lights that cannot be changed or operated.

Prepare the spaces visible from outside

Clean exterior glass and arrange curtains or blinds consistently. Rooms visible through windows should be tidy and ready. Remove personal paperwork and identify any private area that must not appear. Reflections can reveal people, equipment or clutter, so leave time for a final check.

Clear the exterior before arrival

• Move bins, hoses, loose tools and unnecessary objects out of the planned view.
• Arrange outdoor furniture and clean visible surfaces.
• Ask authorized drivers to move vehicles where practical and permitted.
• Keep steps and walkways safe and accessible.
• Have an authorized person operate any fireplace, pool or water feature included in the brief.

Do not enter neighbouring property or block a public route to obtain an angle. The photographer should plan the shot from an appropriate location.

Confirm the evening logistics

Arrange entry, parking, gates and a contact who is available throughout the session. For condos or shared areas, confirm permission and opening hours. If twilight follows an earlier daytime appointment, agree whether the property will remain accessible or require a return visit.

Discuss a weather alternative before the day. Ask how rescheduling or a separate visit affects the scope and price. No provider should promise an identical sky or light condition for every session.

Review the intended treatment

Confirm whether the booking is for real twilight capture or a virtual twilight edit. Both require factual review, but they are different products. Keep architecture, permanent features and the surrounding setting accurate, and have the agent approve the final advertising use.

After the files arrive

Compare the evening image with the daytime set. Check that the entrance remains readable, important lights retain detail and the image contributes something useful. Avoid filling the gallery with several versions that communicate the same view.
